![]() I personally love Better Than Bouillon No Chicken Base as it keeps better and is more economical than carton vegan chicken broth. Vegan chicken broth: This will help flavor the soy curls as “chicken” while rehydrating them.We rehydrate the soy curls in broth for more flavor, and they’ll also absorb the flavors from the stir fry sauce. Soy curls: Any protein (super firm tofu, seitan, beans, etc.) is fine here, but soy curls really have that nice texture and stir-fried chicken taste/feel that Chinese takeout chicken generally has. ![]() But of course, you’re welcome to use another protein like super firm tofu, beans, seitan chunks, or nothing at all.įinally, this recipe is SAUCY, meaning that there’s a lot of this light brown, super flavorful, somewhat thick sauce that sticks to the veggies and whatever you serve it with, like noodles or in my case rice. The protein in this dish is soy curls, one of my favorite chicken replacements. I tried to go for authentic-ish veggies here, but I also worked with what I had. I mentioned above that it’s great for cleaning out the fridge because you can really use any veggies that you like. But, it’s food that I grew up loving and I love to recreate those recipes at home and according to my vegan lifestyle. It’s more like what you might find at an Chinese restaurant in the US. This is a somewhat Americanized, Chinese-inspired dish. Hey Internet, I love stir fry-it's such a good way to use up a bunch of veggies in your fridge, but it’s also healthy, delicious, and quick to make.

Platypus is endemic to Australia and is dependent on rivers, streams and bodies of freshwater. The presence of logs, twigs, and roots, as well as cobbled or gravel water substrate result in increased microinvertebrate fauna (a main food source), and the Platypus also tends to be more abundant in areas with pool-riffle sequences. Hence, the ideal habitat for the species includes a river or a stream with earth banks and native vegetation that provides shading of the stream and cover near the bank. At times, the individuals use rocky crevices and stream debris as shelters, or they burrow under the roots of vegetation near the stream. ![]() When not foraging, the Platypus spends most of the time in its burrow in the bank of the river, creek or a pond. They feed in both slow-moving and rapid (riffle) parts of streams, but show preference to coarser bottom substrates, particularly cobbles and gravel. Platypuses occur in freshwater systems from tropical rainforest lowlands and plateaus of far northern Queensland to cold, high altitudes of Tasmania and the Australian Alps. In addition, males possess a horny spur on their ankles, which is connected to a venom gland in the upper leg, making the Platypus one of the few venomous mammals. The Platypus uses its tail for storage of fat reserves and the strong claws on its feet for burrowing and moving on land. Behind its distinctive bill are the grooves that house the ear openings and the eyes which close when the animal dives. The Platypus propels itself through the water by using its front, short, webbed limbs, and the partially-webbed hind feet act as rudders. Its streamline body and a broad, flat tail are covered with dense waterproof fur, which provides excellent thermal insulation. Platypus is well adapted for semi-aquatic lifestyle. When first discovered, the unusual look of a Platypus caused considerable confusion and doubt amongst European naturalists and scientists, many of whom believed that the animal was a fake. Along with echidnas, Platypuses are grouped in a separate order of mammals known as monotremes, which are distinguished from all other mammals because they lay eggs. ![]() The Platypus is a unique Australian species. ![]() Now, in a science-fiction/horror movie about biological nightmares, or a romantic drama about World War I, that's not the most natural fit in the world, which is why neither Alien Resurrection nor A Very Long Engagement can necessarily be defended as unambiguously great cinema (though I've always very much liked the latter film and have come around a great deal on the former). ![]() They are garish celebrations of vitality. ![]() The thing unifying all of his films made without Caro is that they're populated by elaborately fanciful and quirky characters who nevertheless feel like they could somehow manage to exist in the real world (something that's certainly not true of the fanciful cast of The City of Lost Children), they move through brightly colored spaces at a high energy, and they and the movie containing them always feels profoundly giddy and delighted at the raw possibilities of moviedom. "Carnivalesque" is a lazy word to describe Jeunet's aesthetic, but it has the benefit of being exactly correct. It hits the ground running before even the puckish, detached narration delivered plummily by André Dussolier has found its footing, and it tells us all we ever need to know about Amélie: you're about to watch a carnival in the guise of a romantic comedy about a young Parisian woman doing good deeds. Tiersen's music, which I find utterly beguiling, is jolly, robust, and feels like it belongs under a circus tent in some overheated Epcot Center version of France as foreigners imagine it. In fact, I should underline that again: especially especially the score. At any rate, it is effervescent and cheery maddeningly, toxically cheery, if you're not on its wavelength, and I've always been surprised by the number of people I've met who were absolutely not on that wavelength.Certainly, I can see where the film would become thoroughly enervating if you don't find a way into its style: everything about the design, the dialogue, the acting, and especially the cinematography (by my beloved Bruno Delbonnel this is the movie that put him on the map) and score (by Yann Tiersen) is utterly artificial and unrelenting. It's also true that, compared to Delicatessen (a vicious dark comedy) and The City of Lost Children (a demented Surrealist nightmare), Amélie is vastly more audience-friendly, though I cannot say whether this is because Jeunet was infected by the American film industry, or simply because everything dark and warped in the firs two movies was the responsibility of Caro. Amélie is impossible to have without CGI, which meant something a lot different in 2001 than it means now. That experience, of course, didn't go well for anybody (least of all the audience), but it seems to have been of some use to Jeunet, for his next feature is a pretty perfect hybrid of the delirious fantasies he directed with Marc Caro in the 1990s, Delicatessen and The City of Lost Children, and the glossy high-tech sensibility of a Hollywood production. The movie marked Jeunet's return to France after his abortive one-movie layover in Hollywood, where he caused the frantic, kaleidoscopic Alien Resurrection to happen into the world. Which is absolutely more in line with the movie as it exists out in the wild. A second review requested by Brian Malbon, with thanks for contributing twice to the Second Quinquennial Antagony & Ecstasy ACS Fundraiser.Ĭoncision is nice and all, but it's hard not to be jealous that in 2001, those of us in the English-speaking world got a movie with the blunt, sensible title Amélie, while in France, where the film was born out of the fertile mind of Jean-Pierre Jeunet, they had the enthusiastic The Fabulous Destiny of Amélie Poulain. ![]() We scored the game a 9 out of 10 when it first hit PC in May 2020, with Game Informer PC editor Dan Tack summing up the experience in his review by saying, “Monster Train is a pleasant, mind-blowingly addictive exercise that’s well worth your time, especially if you’re a fan of roguelikes, card games, and deck-building fare.
